I’ve published three books to date and am really looking forward to releasing my fourth (Dead End Dogs) sometime in early December. It’s a children’s book which is new territory for me, but I managed to find a wonderful Bahamian illustrator (the book is set in The Bahamas) and really love what she has come up with. I’m looking forward to seeing how it works with the text once published.
On the marketing front, recently I have been playing with TikTok (CWJwrites) as a tool for spreading the word. I admit that my feeble efforts have been far from Hollywood-worthy, but it‘s been fun experimenting and finding my own voice. While most TikTok authors appear to be fine fine with sitting in front of the camera and chatting about their books, I have preferred to simply do voice-overs on videos to tell the story. I’m not sure if it is the right way of doing it, but I’m comfortable with it this way.
For self-published authors, the only effective way to get the word out is by marketing and advertising. I have no interest in investing lots of money on advertising, even though that appears to be the best way to ensure some level of success. I have decided to play around with various social media platforms and see where it all lands. TikTok is one of many but the level of engagement seems to be promising.
