As I finalize the touches on my new book FIVE LITTLE MONKEYS which will be out this December, I continue to receive reviews for FIGMENT. There is nothing like creating something, then launching it publicly so it is exposed to the world. One all at once feels elated and vulnerable.
The magic of the arts (music, writing, painting, etc.) is that you have the freedom to create in the truest sense of the word. As a writer, each sentence I compose, each character I invent, and each scene I imagine, did not exist in the world before I wrote it. It is truly original and unique. Furthermore, when someone reads your words and finds meaning in them, it is truly a gift.
Even without reviews and readers, I would write. In my mind, it shouldn’t be the reason to be an author. However, I would be lying if I didn’t read each review and take them to heart. Yesterday I received an independent review from the UK. While it was a great review of FIGMENT and very flattering, what made me feel best was knowing that a complete stranger in England had read my words and entered a world that I had created. I mean, how cool is that?
